Reporting Scams
The foundation is aware of various scams in the form of email, phone, text, and social media solicitations (including direct messages) that claim to be from or associated with the Community Trust Foundation.
These communications may include our logo, photos, links, or other information taken directly from our website, ctfinc.org, or our Facebook page. These messages may suggest grants are forthcoming.
If you believe you have received a scam communication, please see below for more information.
Examples of scam communications
The Community Trust Foundation and its employees do not:
- Solicit donations or request funds of any kind.
- Require or request grantees to pay insurance, deposits, or delivery and administrative fees to receive funding.
- Ask for bank account or personal information.
- Approach individuals to offer grant opportunities or scholarships.
- Sponsor lotteries of any kind.
- Request funds through email, text/phone or social media, such as Facebook or Instant Messenger, etc.
What to do if you receive a scam communication
- If you receive any of the above messages you feel is suspicious, you can disregard it. Do not click any links, send money, or provide any personal or bank account information.
- If you would like to determine whether a communication is genuine, please contact us at ctf@ctfinc.org.
- You can report scams and suspicious communications to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
- You can also contact the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center, your local police, and/or state attorney general’s office for assistance.
Here at the Community Trust Foundation operated in Cumberland, MD we send our condolences to the victims of this scam and we wish there was more we could do for you but the FBI is well aware of this situation and we need to keep warning others of these imposters.
