Mountain Maryland Cares announced plans to open the first home in Allegany County, offering a peaceful, dignified alternative to hospital-based end-of-life care. The home will also be Maryland’s first Omega Network Home, joining more than 130 similar homes nationwide that focus on comfort, compassion, and community-supported care for individuals in their final weeks of life.
Located on Bedford Street in Cumberland, the home will provide a warm, residential environment where guests can receive around-the-clock attention while being surrounded by comfort, dignity, and human connection.
“Each of us involved in this effort understands firsthand how much compassionate end-of-life care matters,” said the Board of Mountain Maryland Cares. “Too often, people spend their final days in institutional settings. Our goal is to offer a true home—one that honors life, eases suffering, and supports both guests and their loved ones.”
Mountain Maryland Cares is partnering with Community Trust Foundation to raise funds needed to renovate the donated Bedford Street property, train caregivers, and open the home’s doors. Donations made through this
partnership are fully tax-deductible and go directly toward making the new home operational.
“This is a community effort,” the board added. “Whether someone has supported us from the beginning or is just learning about our work, every gift helps make this vision a reality.”
